I tend to appear where dreams mingle with reality, in that subtle limbo between
imagination and the concrete.
What you are about to watch is a story that I happened to witness while
emerging from the branches and leaves, of a community being born– a union
between the individual and the whole.
Trencadís – CaminoSinFin is a fable and a love story.
An encounter between the “real” world and the oneiric one.
A dream that comes alive in a place that does not exist.
A land that transforms those who reach it into gracious creatures.
This link is the access key to all that in which I have silently taken part and
which I now want to tell you about.
Make good use of it.
Dear dreamer,
THANK YOU.
If you find yourself here, now, reading these words, it is because of your sincere desire to understand the essence of the story I have had the pleasure of narrating.
This understanding requires a simple exercise that I invite you to perform individually, although you will then discover that you are by no means alone.
It begins with breath, the syllables of starlight, an ancient language of the cosmos uttered by forests, mountains and bodies.
Imagine yourself as connected to everything around you.
Extend your awareness inwards to the community of microbes that inhabit your body, the independent organisms that are integral to your existence.
Expand it outwards, to the plants and animals that surround you.
Make yourself comfortable among the dry leaves and branches and begin to observe, with a keen eye, the many forms that 'life' takes.
ARE YOU ABLE TO OBSERVE THEM?
After a few moments, ask the following question towards the beings that you observe:
WHAT IS IT LIKE TO BE YOU?
From here on, you will be part of a process of cooperation, interaction, and shifting dependency between you and the world that you inhabit.
Now, allow this process to become part of your everyday life.
This awareness is necessary to understand Trencadís{caminosinfin}, an example of Emergent Cinema.
The concept of 'emergence' identifies the ways in which simple actions and connections lead to new and more complex behaviors, abilities, systems, and patterns.
Like an ecosystem or society emerging from the interactions of the individuals it is composed of.
In the emergent framework, the whole is the mirror of the parts.
Existence is fractal.
The health of each individual cell is the health of all the species that inhabit the planet.
Trencadís{caminosinfin} is the cinematic expression of an ephemeral ecosystem emerging from the interaction between the human and the more-than-human.
Trencadis{caminosinfin} is a spontaneous symbiosis.
It is a story lived by 80 individuals who found themselves together with no knowledge of what they would live and experience– the story they would help create. They arrived in an unknown place with trust in who invited them. In that place a transformation occurred, a myth created. In close contact with improvisation and with trust in the process of exploration, all that was present– cameras, nature, costumes, people, sounds, space and food organically came together to create a novel and more complex being, documented in this film.
A transformation capable of leading the individual to become a whole, an organism composed of many other organisms, all playing an essential part in the operations of the macro organism.
{HOLOBIONT}
A space capable of departing from the 'real' to enter the ‘dreamt.’
Emergent Cinema is the process where the particular form of this ephemeral experience is immortalized, given a body.
An exercise that challenges the concept of the individual, of individualism to make way for a return to the commonwealth of living things.
CAN YOU SEE ME NOW?
The essence of this story, its characters and its symbols arrived to Il Dallas in a dream. With care he then delivered his dream to Selfu who found all that was necessary for the dream to become reality, bringing together the right people and finding the place for the story to occur. The place that became Trencadis, was cared for by Jordi who served as a liaison, a translator between the place and its temporary inhabitants. Alvise Rizzo, the engineer, devised ways of sustainably hosting the temporary community. Elisa Zogno presided over the food that would sustain all that would live the story. Lili Lincoln curated sounds to accompany the transformation that would occur. Michela Segato created the costumes that enabled the participants to fully transform and enter the story, to become the characters that had been dreamt. For the dream to be immortalized, Skyland, converted the lived story into images that captured the spontaneity of the moment and the meaning of the story. Giacomo interpreted and guided the light into the camera’s eye, turning the ‘real’ into the ‘dream.’ Skyland then, in close dialogue with Il Dallas and Selfu assembled the images and the lived story held within them into the film: Trencadis{caminosinfin}. Il Dallas became the vessel for the Mushroom’s voice that would accompany the story. Sam Spiers then tied together the images with sound and music allowing for Trencadis{caminosinfin} to become a fully realized world and a new dream.
All the rest of the participants played a fundamental role in the natural development of the story, the creation of the “symbols” and the achievement of a collective state of being we learned to call “life”.
